Trunk Show I rescue vintage quilts and 'rehab' them into something usable. I have done a few trunk shows and wondered if you might be interested. Rescue (verb) definition: Keep from being lost or abandoned. The RE-ality of Rescue There are hundreds of old quilts hiding in closets, attics, and antique and thrift stores. My joy is finding them to rescue, redo, re-quilt (by me), rehome, reuse and re-love. I like to think there are no limits to what can be done with vintage pieces. I hope that making something new and modern out of soft old vintage fabrics is honoring the original maker. The first rescue was made into two lovely and traditional-setting lap quilts. Since then, I have rescued and redone over 50 quilts. My husband is probably my biggest fan. He has found stuff at dirty and grungy estate sales that I completely missed. I have paid as little as $6.00 for a complete unused quilt top. We once rescued a $5.00 quilt that was covering a car engine-outside in the UP. I salvaged 16 nine patch blocks from that for my son in law’s quilt ‘Chas’s Blue Rescue’ (2018). My family, friends and I think I have found my true passion as a quiltmaker. Trunk Shows I am always excited to share my process and ideas to anyone who will listen. I will bring 15- 20 finished quilts and share the before pictures. My fee is $150 plus mileage for guilds. Check out my blog for examples of my work. Lucinda Herring Dexter & Brimley, Michigan http://quiltsbylucinda.home.blog sewnbylucinda.weebly.com Original quilt I paid $10.00 for. I made ½ square triangles from the undamaged parts of the strips with the muslin that was in the back of the original. I gave it to my son for his 25th birthday and it’s hanging in his house.

Stitch-A-Palooza Charity Sew IN (You Can Bring Your Own Guil Good afternoon, The sewing women at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church are doing it again! On Saturday, May 18th, we’re inviting old friends and new from all over the metro Detroit area to join us for a day of charity sewing, camaraderie, and chocolate. If you already have charities that you support, GREAT! Bring a project and come to our second annual Stitch-a-Palooza! Stitch-A-Palooza begins at 8:30 with caffeine and carbs. It’s a BYOSM (Bring Your Own Sewing Machine) event and there will be helpers available to help you unload. If you plan on sewing, feel free to bring a charity project of your own. Don’t have one but still want to join the fun? We will have kits made up for simple tops that you are welcome to sew up. The kits have clear directions, precut pieces and can be completed in a single Stitch-A-Palooza! The charities we support in the Detroit area will appreciate another set of hands helping- yours. Need a break from your sewing machine and want to learn something new? Catch the Zoom presentation by Houston quilter Sarah Ruiz at 10:00 a.m. entitled From Rockets to Rotary Cutters- find out how she balances her work at NASA with her successful quilting career. At noon we’ll break for lunch. The church is right on the shore of Lake St. Clair- enjoy your sandwich AND the scenery as you chat with new friends on our terrace. At 1:00 p.m. an optional workshop will be offered - Sending A Little Love: An Exploration of Fabric Postcards. Most workshop materials will be provided and you’ll have plenty of time to assemble anything you need to bring from home. The workshop will be approximately 1 ½-2 hours long. We’ve planned a sweet treat midafternoon, and the day will wrap up around 4. You are welcome for any or all of the day. I hope that you and other members of your group will consider joining us for this fun event. A participant from last year left Stitch-A-Palooza with a big smile on her face and called it a “small retreat just down the street”. We have door prizes and swag bags, popcorn, caffeine, AND chocolate! Please preregister so that we make sure to save you a spot-unfortunately, we only have space for 40. If you have any questions, feel free to call the church at (313)882-5330. Thank you, Nancy Eckert (313) 418-6380 (cell) P.S. I haven’t been able to attach a pdf of the flyer but I did mail some hard copies to Kat Stevens to distribute. Registration can also be found on the church website- gpmchurch.org. Thanks!

Donation Hello Paula. 2 questions. First, my dad used to work with a man named O'Kane. Our families sometimes got together. I've asked siblings the names, but they can't remember. I think maybe his wife's name was Virginia. Very nice couple. I was wondering if you are a relative. My last name is Chateau. Maybe that sounds familiar? Secondly, my mom passed away 1-1/2 years ago. She was an avid seamstress, quilter and cross-stitcher. I would like to donate some of her things if there is anybody who is interested. I have quilt racks, cross-stitch racks and rulers. I also have material that I may be interested in donating. The fabric is the hardest thing for me. I have a lot of quilting books, too. I am not interested in taking business away from any store, but I would like to see these supplies go to someone who would appreciate them.

Question Hello- I came across a few very old quilts while going through my parents house, prepping for an estates sale. I wondered if you, or anyone you know would be willing to look at them and give me a recommendation on what to do with them or how I might sell them? Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions. I am in Washington Twp.

Quilt Show Address Hi Tracey, I noticed on our website that the map (for Quilt Show) says New Baltimore. I’m hoping you can change it to Chesterfield. I’m sure the error is due to the zip code. Chesterfield has 2 zips…1 being the same as New Baltimore’s. We don’t want anyone getting turned around or frustrated on their way! Thanks. Sew sincerely, Brenda L. Pedersen Thanks.

Guild Bylaws And Standing Rules

The board has approved the changes to the guild bylaws and standing rules. Here are the highlights.

• Years of service have changed from 3 to 4 years of service. This is because for the treasurer it takes almost 2 years to get acquainted with the position to have only one year of easy confident service before the next treasurer is voted in. This is not a difficult position, just more to learn than other positions.

• Also acknowledging anyone may step down from their position after one committed year.

• The Education and Newsletter positions were removed as board positions. This is due in part to the low number of members volunteering for board positions.  These will be committee positions.

• The immediate past president was also removed from the board but is still very much valued for her insight and is considered a valuable consultant for the board.

• The dissolution article was completely re-written so that in the event we have to dissolve this guild, money and assets will go to another 501(c)(3) organization and not the government.

Reminder the above are only highlights. Other changes were made and reviewing them is important.

The standing rules up until now has been a random list of guidelines or rules that did not necessarily need to be in the bylaws but still need to be listed and followed. So, the random list of rules is now somewhat better organized and set up for any future changes.

Quilt Novel I am writing to see if my new novel “Scraps” would be of interest to members of your quilt guild. It was inspired by a hope quilt my mother made for my father while he was flying 32 missions in a B-17 bomber over Nazi Germany during WW II. She was pregnant with me at the time. It is now available in print on BookBaby Bookshop, Barnes & Noble or Amazon (slower delivery) or can be instantly downloaded as an e-book. It is a work of fiction suitable for anyone except children due to some violence but no bad words or explicit sexual content. I do think it is a good read and somewhat unique with a quilt as the connecting link. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, Dr. Ted M. Moore 214 641-4114

But when I go to the sit n stitch album, the photo cannot come up. I did not delete the files form my computer or phone just is case I have done something wrong. When you get home next week, give me a call and let me know what I have done wrong. I did manage to create a new album for November and December. That you can see for you self. By-Laws

I am sending you a copy of the updated by-laws for you to review before our first board meeting. I am also including the standing rules, which we are not going to vote on just yet. Some of the changes to the bylaws were moved to standing rules so they don't get lost. Because any changes to the by laws have to be sent to the government, in the future the standing rules will be the document that is changed instead of the bylaws.

Attending November Meeting Hello. I am somewhat of a novice with quilt making, but quite interested in joining a group of individuals to learn more about the craft and donate to others in need. Just wondered if it is okay if I just show up at he next meeting?

Meeting Info? Hi Kathy, I ordered Sulky adhesive and they sent me a card with info about guild meeting events. It says “go on line to: sewingonline.sulky.com/2022-virtual-guild-program “. It might be something we could use for a meeting. Enjoy your day! Valada
